Hostgator Reviews: Too Good to Be True?
Posted by Administrator
I have been blogging since 2004 and I am impressed how Hostgator have been the choose of the bloggers. From 100 Blogs checked 70 of them are hosted with Hostgator. After this test I wanted to look at Hostgator and see what is the special thing about it and why many people love them.
Hostgator.com trusted by over 1,000,000 domain owners
That’s true they host more than a million sites on their company and that gives them the posibility to rank one of the highest hosting company over the net, with excellent prices.
600GB storage space, 6000GB monthly bandwidth
I really hate when webhosting companies gives that ridiculous amount of Storage space and monthly bandwidth but the reason is just because competition. In 2002, hosting companies started to give that amount of disk space and bandwidth to attract more customers but don’t believe it. The most important thing you have to look is how much resources (CPU, RAM,…) you can use, if you use a lot of it then the hosting company will give you a warning. But with Hostgator attracting bloggers (which they don’t use that ridiculous amount of resource) they are gaining fame and popularity with no negative comments.
24/7 support, live chat support, toll free phone
They forgot to mention that they have also forum support which you can see many active moderators (or support team) there. Not many companies offers phone support but a plus point to hostgator for the phone support. Another good point is for live chat very usefull in any emergency.
Host up to Unlimited unique websites. Free domain name.
The free domain is another good point but if you want a long term of your online business I will recommend to register a domain name with another registrar like Godaddy or Network Solutions. You can host many websites (domain names), many blogs in one account.
Hostgator Testimonials reviews
It seems that many people use Hostgator for many types of websites:
- Video Game Clan Site Hosting: I have been with hostgator for a little less than a month at the time of writing this, They have been the best webhost I have ever dealt with. I host a video game clan site with a streaming video section and some small sites for friends. I have experienced no downtime yet, The service has been flawless. I have contacted customer support by e-mail and online chat and they have always been quick to respond and answered my questions to the point. The only pitfall I have found with this webhost is they don’t allow any video sharing script, FFMPEG is not allowed on the servers. I am using a shared plan so that was asking for more than I should expect but thats the ONLY thing I had a problem with. The service is great, Great uptime, Good consistent site speeds. You really can’t go wrong with HostGator.
- MySQL Direct Access Host: We needed to find a host that would allow direct access to the MySQL database. Not sure why, but most hosting companies don’t offer this.
For us to be able to set up real time reporting from the database using php we had to be able to connect an ODBC.
Hostgator was there for us. Their customer service was efficient and in no time the site was up and running. We’ve had no down time.
PLUS! We found a Help Desk php program that we’ve started to use called Hesk. There are tons of great resources in the Cpanel; even a OS “Live Chat” service that is FREE! to use. And Live Person wants $20/month or more per user?
Only good things to say. And I have to admit, I was reluctant at first. Not only do I have no regrets, but I’m getting ready to load another new project on Hostgator this weekend.
With the Rebate Coupon, it’s a win win! - Cpanel Hosting with Great Support: Excellent web hosting company, uptime 100%, fast support team, fast servers, cPanel, price is just right and better than other companies. Needless to say I have had to contact them on a several occasions and I have never been kept waiting. I’m thinking of switching to their dedicated servers now
- Forum Hosting Phpbb: I’ve been using HostGator.com since 3 years and they are very good believe their baby plan should satisfy you You can install a message board (phpBB) with few clicks from your Control Panel. Nice to know that you have dropped sitebuilder!! learning how to code is the best practice to create nice and valid sites that really work.
- Lost Backup and Hostgator Solution: I love HostGator. They are great! They saveed me when I really needed help. I had lost my original server due to reasons unknown, and by sheer luck, I found HostGator. They took my old site back up, set it up for me, and worked with me til it was completed. I never felt alone, and their service response was very timely and helpful. They get Top Marks for Customer Service and Support from me.
When I came upon HostGator, I had now Idea how I was going to get my site back up, all I had was raw data files that I had managed to save, before my other server crashed, sure it was a full back up, but I didn’t know what to do with it or how to fix it. They walked me through set up, reconfigured it for me, and answered all my questions along the way, even late at night when most customer service/support people are long gone, they were there for me. Their response time was under 1 hour, that to me in this day and age, is fantastic.
- Yahoo! Store Hosting: I love HostGator. They are great! They saveed me when I really needed help. I had lost my original server due to reasons unknown, and by sheer luck, I found HostGator. They took my old site back up, set it up for me, and worked with me til it was completed. I never felt alone, and their service response was very timely and helpful. - Ipowerweb Customers Move to Hostgator: HostGator ROCKS! I cant brag enough about their tech support help. I recently left Ipowerweb and transferred all my accounts from ipowerweb whos tech support is virtually non existant. Ive tried on numerous occassions over the last 6 months to reach ipowerweb tech support at all hours of day and night and was on hold an average of 45 minutes, where I eventually gave up and hung up. To make matters worse, I notified Ipowerweb billing 1 week prior to several renewals to NOT renew, which they blatantly ignored and charged my card anyway even after the domain was transferred away from them. I have a folder of over 20 emails with dates with them saying they are sorry to see me go and not renew, and yet they charged me anyway. Then when confronted, they said I had to wait 7-10 business days for refund, which IM now 30 days later and no refund in sight. STAY AWAY FROM IPOWERWEB! Im currently seeking legal counsel and notifying the better business bureau of their underhanded and shady tactics.
Back to Host Gator. they rock! need tech support? your average wait time is 30 seconds. literally! and they get the job done! Ive transferred my site to hostgator and will be sending them all my clients and associates as well.
- Hostgator Reliable and Top 1 Hosting: Sitesell got a load of problems I couldn’t work with. No ftp is one.
Thirdsphere was fine but I did not need alot of their tools yet.
Dreamhost had ftp directory and folder structure not according to the standard public_html one so it’s just frustrating working with it.
Avahost was ok in everything except that their knowledge base support structure isn’t exactly fantastic, so I always had to contact helpdesk when I’m trying to find an answer. And helpdesk reply isn’t that fast either.
Yahoo hosting is the worst in my opinion. Dealing with them is a laughing situation. Their support is filled with a bunch of dumb dotz who don’t know what they’re doing, can’t answer your questions properly, take so long to answer and never really help you to solve your problems. Working with them is a complete pain in the ass.
But yahoo webmail plus is the best webmail program I’ve ever come across so I’m using it to read and send all my emails forwarded to it. That’s the ONLY plus factor of yahoo in my opinion.
and then I found hostgator! I was trying to find which was a top rated host once and for all and I kept on doing searches and see which host appeared in the top ranks of various hosting review pages.
At first what I saw was lunar pages. I considered switching to lunar pages for quite a while but then someone in the xsitepro forum mentioned hostgator enthusiastically and I started to consider it.
The tipping point came when I went to a hosting review site and I saw that hostgator was rated by users as the top host of the month.
So I decided to thoroughly check out hostgator. I talked to their live chat (A very useful feature to help you with your problems) and found that their support responds quite well and usually helps me to find the answer that I’m looking for. When I email hostgator support, they also respond soon enough and with far better answers I than I could ever get from yahoo hosting.
The ftp directory, folder structure and cpanel are standard so it’s exactly what I’m looking for. (simple and easy to use)
Their knowledge base and support ticket system is just the way it should be like most decent hosts.
The best is that they offer a monthly payment plan for baby account with free setup. That’s one of the crucial factors I normally look for to judge a hosting company. Lunarpages only offers 3 months paypment minimum with $30 setup.
Hosting companies that allow only 1 year prepaid plan are held in extremely low regard by me unless they offer a 1 year money back gaurantee. In psychology, this is called a commitment manipulation.
Respectable people always give you a choice to stay or leave anytime you want and they never lock you in with anything.
I’m not going to talk about disk space and bandwidth here because for crying out loud, the difference between most hosts don’t even matter at all.
Indeed hostgator is now rated as top of the list and yahoo webhosting is rated at the very bottom! Wow such findings just totally reflect my experiences.
